Truck Automation in Ohio

Redefining Transportation Innovation:
- Ohio Rural Automated Project (ADS): EASE Logistics partnered with DriveOhio, ODOT, the Transportation Research Center, and Bosch in 2022 to deploy automated, AI-connected semi‑trucks on real customer freight shipments in rural Ohio, collecting nearly 60 terabytes of data over the course of less than a year. During this pilot, two semi‑trucks traveled approximately 44,000 miles – over 11,000 in platooning mode – achieving about a 10% boost in fuel efficiency and offering valuable insights into technology performance in rural terrain.
- I‑70 Truck Automation Corridor: EASE serves as the host fleet partner for the I‑70 Truck Automation Corridor stretching from Columbus, OH to Indianapolis, IN, working with DriveOhio, ODOT, INDOT, and Kratos to test automated platooning technologies. The project uses Kratos’ vehicle‑agnostic “Leader‑Follower” platooning system to enhance safety and efficiency, collecting data to inform U.S. Department of Transportation guidelines and support automation readiness across varied weather, regulatory, and interstate environments.
